In less than two weeks, Judson students will learn about the many ways they can shape the world during Global Outreach Week, Monday–Friday, Sept. 4-8, on the Elgin campus (1151 N. State St., Elgin).
Guest speakers have been lined up and special evening activities have been planned to further focus on the role Christians play in helping the greater community outside church doors. At the end of the week, a special chapel event will announce the global outreach trips Judson students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends can participate in.
Global Outreach Week begins on Monday, Sept. 4, and runs through Friday, Sept. 8.
On Monday, Sept. 4, author, speaker and counselor Mike Foster of San Diego, Calif., will be the chapel guest at 10 a.m. in Herrick Chapel. Author and founder of the “People of the Second Chance” organization, Foster specializes in speaking about addictions, depression, shame and thriving in not-so-perfect lives.
Monday night, students are invited to come out and see “Insanity of God,” the gripping, true story of missionaries Nik and Ruth Ripken from 7:30-9:30 p.m. in the Thulin Auditorium. A question-and-answer session will follow.
On Tuesday, Sept. 5, students in Judson’s Upper Room ministry will hear stories and testimonies of current students who have served on Global Outreach trips this past year.
On Wednesday, Sept. 6, Judson will welcome Pastor Paco Amador of New Life Community Church – Little Village Lawndale in Chicago to speak in chapel. Pastor Amador also visited Judson in February.
On Wednesday night, students, staff and faculty can participate in a Poverty Simulation challenge, 7-9 p.m. in Lindner Tower, where participants are encouraged to spend an hour “in the shoes” of a poor person who must meet the needs of a family. On Friday, Sept. 8, Global Outreach Week culminates with the big “Trip Reveal” during the 10 a.m. chapel service in Herrick Chapel. This is the day students learn of the destinations open to them for service trips this year.
Applications for service trips open on Friday, Sept. 8. The deadline for applications is Friday, Sept. 29.
